on sunday i was in san jose with my mom for new year festivities. we stopped by lion market in milpitas to pick up some new year supplies. the entire lion market storefront was in a haze of fire cracker smoke as 7 lions and 1 dragon were dancing about to the clangs of the cymbals and drums. i stopped to watch, but my mom hurridly pushed me inside.

we picked out the items we needed and my mom went to the other side of the store to grab some fruit. i followed but paused when i heard more fire crackers go off. i looked towards the front of the store and was hypnotized by the sequened asses of the lions swaying in their huddle. with the last big bang, all the lions spun around and charged into the store aisles. i suddenly realized one of them was heading my way! i kind of panicked when i saw the bobble eyes of the lion staring straight at me. i tried to play it cool by looking away, picking up a packet of beans or something, and tapping my foot to the drum beats. but when i looked up, he was next to me. there was only us and rows of beans and noodles. he shook his head from side to side at me, and tried to nuzzle my hand. i freaked out and ran to look for my mom.

i found her bagging apples and i told her what had happened. she laughed at me and said "they're just hungry."
"i wish i had some lettuce for him or something."
"oh no, these lions don't want lettuce, they're hungry for dollar bills."
"oh."
